Center for Railway Research

The Center for Railway Research (CRR) studies, develops, and applies new and emerging technologies to solve rail industry problems. Housed in the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), the center conducts research to develop technologies to improve the safety, reliability, and economics of rail transportation.

Mission

The mission of the Center for Railway Research is to improve safety and enhance the performance of railway transportation through strategic programs of innovative research and technology development. Among the most important missions the Center undertakes is the training of students. The need for training the next generation of transportation professionals is recognized as a significant challenge facing the profession. The objectives of the Center’s education programs is to recruit and retain a diverse population of students into engineering and technology fields; to sustain their excitement about the field of transportation engineering and technology; and to prepare the next generation of professionals to face the complex challenges presented by railway transportation.

The Center creates opportunities for engineers, teachers and students to work together to directly impact the learning, interests, and career aspirations of students in pre-college and college learning environments, thereby bridging engineering research, university education, and pre-college education.

Expertise

Researchers working within the Center for Railway Research include research engineers, faculty, and graduate students from multiple departments, laboratories, programs, and centers within TTI and the Dwight Look College Of Engineering at Texas A&M University. These researchers have developed an outstanding reputation internationally for research that has been completed and implemented by the railway industry in North America.

The Center for Railway Research also accommodates additional multidisciplinary, collaborative research efforts. For more information on becoming a CRR Partner, contact us at [email protected].

Goal

The Center for Railway Research’s goal is to be the Premier University Rail Research Center in the U.S.
